or microscopic in the wall of stomach and bowel. No abnormality of the digestive juices in the small intestine has been recorded. In the stomach, however, there would appear to be some interference with normal function. Marriott' found in cases of coeliac disease that there was a marked deficiency of free hydrochloric acid in the gastric juice and that this gradually returned to normal limits as the general health improved. In a series of seven cases Snell and Camp2 reported the same findings and Parsons' has stated that achlorhydria is not uncommon in coeliac disease although free acid can be obtained in response to histamine. During an investigation into the variations in gastric secretion in infancy and childhood the opportunity was taken to examine seventeen children with coeliac disease. The objects were to determine (a) the free hydrochloric and total acid contents and (b) the peptic activity, and to

Lymphocytic gastritis and coeliac disease: evidence of a positive association.
AIMS To investigate the prevalence of lymphocytic gastritis in patients with coeliac disease. METHODS Gastric biopsies from 70 patients with coeliac disease were examined by light microscopy for the presence of lymphocytic gastritis, defined as 25 or more intraepithelial lymphocytes/100 gastric columnar epithelial cells. RESULTS Lymphocytic gastritis was found in seven cases. Positive cases...

AIMS To determine if a clinically important polymorphonuclear leucocyte infiltrate and surface gastric epithelial metaplasia occur in the second part of the duodenum in coeliac disease; to evaluate the utility of these morphological criteria in the differential diagnosis of coeliac disease and peptic duodenitis. METHODS 49 mucosal biopsy specimens of the second part of the duodenum reported a...

H syndrome is an autosomal recessive genodermatosis with reports dating back to the last decade. This syndrome is caused by mutations in the SCL29A3 gene. The clinical characteristics of this syndrome consist of dermatological manifestations, including hyperpigmented, hypertrichotic, and indurated patches and plaques. It affects various systems by causing heart anomalies, hepatosplenomegaly, hy...
متن کاملType 1 Diabetes Mellitus, Celiac Disease, and Selective IgA Deficiency: a Case Report
Patients with Type 1 diabetes mellitus have a high prevalence of coeliac disease, symptoms of which are often mild, atypical, or absent. Untreated coeliac disease is associated with an increased risk of malignancy, particularly of lymphoma. Therefore, we report a 9-year-old girl with Coeliac disease, diabetes type 1 and Selective IgA deficiency. A 9-year-old female patient presented in august 2...
متن کاملImmunoglobulin secretion by isolated intestinal lymphocytes: spontaneous production and T-cell regulation in normal small intestine and in patients with coeliac disease.
The in vitro secretion of immunoglobulins by small intestinal lymphocytes isolated from 47 patients with normal histology and 23 patients with treated and untreated coeliac disease was examined using an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. In control patients, duodenal lymphocytes spontaneously secreted higher levels of IgM than jejunal lymphocytes (p less than 0.05). Significantly higher levels ...
